No Handicapping at BCAPL National Championships!
June 12, 2016 | Author: Ozzy Reynolds

Many people have contacted us to ask if BCAPL National Championship matches are going to be handicapped. The answer is NO. Although the BCAPL National Championships webpage, entry forms, and tournament regulations show that there is no handicapping of matches, many people believe otherwise.
According to a recent scientific study that we are making up to exaggerate a point in this blog, most people need to hear a message at least three times before it is fully understood. So, here goes.
There is NO HANDICAPPING at the BCAPL National Championships.
There is NO HANDICAPPING at the BCAPL National Championships.
There is NO HANDICAPPING at the BCAPL National Championships.
Why the confusion?
Apparently, because FargoRate has been used to handicap matches in specific state and regional events, some people have assumed that BCAPL National Championship matches would also be handicapped. Those people then tell others and they tell others and eventually there is a mass misunderstanding.
Many state and regional events don't attract enough players to have separate divisions for the full range of skill. Rather than have numerous small divisions with small prize funds, we can have one or more larger divisions and use FargoRate to handicap matches. This allows us to have larger divisions with a broad range of skill while ensuring that everyone can be competitive.
Why no handicapping at the BCAPL National Championships?
There is no need for this at the BCAPL National Championships. The event attracts thousands of players from around the world and divisions are sufficiently large. Additionally, our view is that players should be placed in divisions with others of comparable skill and the people who play the best and persevere deserve to be crowned as national champions.
We hope this helps eliminate any confusion and we look forward to seeing you at the BCAPL National Championships...where there is NO HANDICAPPING within divisions!
