Silver Division Added for Mixed 8-Ball Teams

10/30/2017

We are excited to announce that a new mixed 8-ball team division is being added – the Mixed 8-Ball Teams Silver Division!

Historically, there have been three mixed 8-ball team divisions offered – Platinum (3,250 team rating limit), Gold (3,000 team rating limit), and Trophy (2,750 team rating limit) divisions. Feedback from our members revealed a demand for another division with a lower team rating limit. Therefore, we are now introducing the Silver team division with a maximum team rating limit of 2,500.

In summary, here are the Mixed 8-Ball Team divisions now offered:

It was a good decision from the organizers to add Mixed 8-Ball Teams Silver Division! Now that the game is becoming bigger and bigger, I am pretty sure that billiard fans are going crazy right now, If the fans were so happy about the news, I can just imagine the effect of this update for those who will compete. They've been requesting for this to happen, and finally it's here! Good luck to all those who will join the competition. I am sure this is going to be fun!

just want to verify...the silver division is 2500 (and i assume with prize money) and the trophy is still 2750 (with prize money)?

do you think this will go over well? should not it be the other way around? move trophy to 2500 and silver at 2750? our team qualifies for the silver so i think its awesome...just wanted to double check everything was as you say before signing up :)

sorry, meant trophy was without prize. type-o :)
just seems weird that trophy teams would be better than silver and not get cash

Brian,

You are correct...the Trophy division team limit is 2,750 and there are no cash prizes. Prizes include trophies, championship team jackets, and the pride of being a BCAPL world champion. This division also has the lowest entry fee of all the mixed team divisions.

The Silver division team limit is 2,500 and there are cash payouts. The entry is higher than that of the Trophy division.

This may seem odd at first. However, the Trophy division is a special divisions offered for those teams that want a lower entry fee and do not wish to compete for money. This division actually has very little to do with skill level. The Silver division is offered for those teams that do want to compete for prize money but could not be competitive in the higher skill level divisions.

We hope this explanation helps. Thank you!

Ro, if you believe your starter rating is too high or too low, you can contact us directly and request a rating review. Our staff will do some research and adjust starter ratings if warranted. We can be reached by phone at 702-719-7665 or by email at leagues@playcsipool.com. We hope this helps.

I was told a year ago that CSI would be launching a brand new Online League Management System for all league operator’s to use that will automatically upload league matches to FargoRate. Hasn't happened in my local league. Anybody got this working?

David,

Thank you for the message.

We have been transitioning leagues to the new League Management System (LMS) for several months. If your league has not yet transitioned to the new system, please ask your League Operator to contact us at 702-719-7665 and we are happy to help.
Thank you.

As Fargo ratings change slightly from day to day how do I ensure that my team doesn’t exceed the 2500 rating for silver. As it sits right now we will be extremely close to our limit. What happens if it goes above after we sign up? Or is the 2500 cap not a hard cap?

Chris,

Thank you for the question. This is addressed on page 8 of the Tournament Guide which can be downloaded from the BCAPL World Championships webpage. In summary, it states the following:

"Team Rating Increases
There is a 10-point per core player team rating cushion. If a team is eligible for a division at the time of registration but one or more members’ ratings naturally increase afterwards to push them over the limit plus the cushion, it has the following options:

Option 1: Move up into the next division (if possible) and pay any difference in entry fees

Option 2: Replace one or more players to get back within the division limit (must still meet other eligibility requirements)

Option 3: Play and accept a one-game penalty in each match for every 50 points over the cushion

Example: A Mixed Gold Team is below the 3,000 limit at the time of registration but their team rating naturally increases to 3,093 (43 pts. over the cushion). They will incur a one-game penalty in each match. If their rating naturally increases to 3,127 (77 pts. over the cushion), they will incur a two-game penalty in each match."

We hope this helps and we encourage you to read the entire Tournament Guide so you understand the details of every division. Thank you!

Already noticed a team signed-up for the Silver Division with what appears to be with Fargo Ratings exceeding the Silver Div limit. Team listed shows only 5 players, with total Fargo well over limit. Why are they allowed to be entered when they exceed that divisions limit ??? Is the so called "cushion" being allowed as "fudging" ???

Hi Carl,

Thank you for the message. No, those team entries have not yet been reviewed and verified. Once they are reviewed, any team that was not legitimately below the division limit will be forced to change players or move into another division.

Thank you!

I have a couple of questions pertaining to mixed 8 singles: 1. How do you (or I) determine what division i'm in? 2. I see the 8 singles start on Saturday the 21st, approximately what time? I'm planning my flights.

Morgan,

For singles, players simply register for 8-ball and/or 9-ball singles. Once registration is closed and all entries are in, we divide the entire field into several divisions based on ratings.

Although it is not possible to know the exact start time of each division until all entries are received and all events are scheduled, play may begin as early as 9 a.m. on the start dates.

We hope this helps. Thanks and we look forward to seeing you there!

Can a person play on two teams if they're in different divisions?
Trophy on one team and silver on another.

Thanks!

Morgan,

There is no rule against being on two team rosters. However, please understand that we are not able to schedule around conflicts that may arise because of this. Both teams should have additional players on the roster in the event that both of your teams are playing at the same time.

Headed down for the teams division. If our combined Fargo is 2562, where would that put us? Silver or Gold? Currently registered in Gold..

Thank you and keep your bridge hand strong!

Star,

In order to play in the Silver Teams divisions, the total team rating cannot exceed 2,500. Therefore, your team could play in the Trophy Division (2,750), Gold Divisions (3,000) or Platinum Division (3,250).

Thanks!

The following is taken from page 9 of the tournament guide.

Example: A male has a rating of 716 at the time of registration but it naturally increases to 735 afterwards (5 pts. over the cushion), the team will incur a one-game penalty in each match. If the same person’s rating increases to 758 (28 pts. over the cushion), the team will incur a two-game penalty in each match.

I just want to make sure that it's just the math that's incorrect? If the male is at a 716 rating and then goes up to 735, he is now 9 pts over the 10 pt cushion correct? And then if he goes up to 758 he would be 32 pts over the cushion, correct? Wouldn't the 10 pt cushion for a 716 rated player be 726? Maybe there is a typo in the example where the male player should be listed as having a 720 rating. Nevertheless, if 5 pts over the cushion results in a one game penalty and 28 pts over the cushion results in a two game penalty, what is the number of pts over the cushion that increases a one game penalty to a two game penalty?

Hi Bob,

The math on the Tournament Guide is correct. There is a maximum individual rating limit of 720. In the example you cited, the player is rated 716. However, that player's rating could move up to 720 with no issue at all. If the player's rating moves beyond 720, the 10-point cushion would apply up to 730. The rule is as follows:

"There is a 10-point individual rating cushion. If a person (male or female) is rated 720 or lower in Mixed Teams, or a female is rated 660 or lower in Women’s Teams at the time of registration, but his or her rating naturally increases above 730 (Mixed Teams) or 670 (Women’s Teams) afterwards, the team has the following options:

Option 1: Replace the player (must still meet other eligibility requirements)

Option 2: Play and accept a one-game penalty in each match for every 25 points over the cushion (730 or 670)

Example: A male has a rating of 716 at the time of registration but it naturally increases to 735 afterwards (5 pts. over the cushion), the team will incur a one-game penalty in each match. If the same person’s rating increases to 758 (28 pts. over the cushion), the team will incur a two-game penalty in each match."

Just curious, if a team is rated @ 2561 an matches up against a team that is 2800-3000, how much games would the higher rated team have to spot them per round?

none of the matches are handicapped. so in your example, no games are spotted.
